Signs you may need a new A/C or Heating system.
1. Consider the age of your current unit?
The age of your current A/C unit is one of the biggest determining factors when considering replacement. While every unit is different, as well as its care and maintenance the average lifespan of a well maintained A/C unit is roughly15 to 20 years.

2. How energy efficient is your current air conditioning system?
Approximately 50% of a homes energy bill is attributed to it’s cooling and heating costs.
If the system in your home is becoming less efficient you can expect to see this reflected in your monthly energy bill. Older units are less energy efficient than newer models. This means lower energy bills, less repairs, and a longer lifespan. Therefore, while investing in a new system might seem expensive, it is likely to save you money in the long run.
3. Frequency and cost of repairs
Consider whether the air conditioner requires frequent repairs or needs costly and outdated R22 refrigerant. If the answer is “yes,” you should consider replacing the unit.
4. Are you getting moisture build-up, humidity issues or is there a smell coming from the unit?
One of the jobs of your air conditioning system is to extract humidity from the air inside of your home.
The moisture it removes from the home may leak from your unit outside. Some water dripping from a homes AC unit is normal and is often seen coming from a drain pipe outside. Overtime issues can develop in the coils and the condensate line can also build up sludge that needs to be drained.
As your AC continues to age your unit will no longer be able to extract humidity from the air inside your home as efficiently as it once did. Your home can feel clammier, and you may see moisture around your vents or ducts. Additionally, you may experience mold or mildew growth inside your home or in your unit.
While you may be able to rectify some of these issues with a chemical coil cleaning, draining of the condensate line or other possible repairs the age of the unit should always come into consideration.
